Former Mount Carmel Dr. William Husel Charged With Murder

The Franklin County Prosecutor charged Former Mount Carmel Dr. William Husel with 25 counts of murder today for ordering lethal amounts of painkillers for patients.

A Franklin County Grand Jury indicted Husel after a 6-month investigation found he intentionally ordered the administration of lethal fentanyl doses for 25 patients.

Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said Husel’s actions prematurely ended their lives, and that a few of the patients might have recovered if given proper medical attention.

“That candle, while there may just be a half an inch of wax left, if I blow that candle out I’m causing that flame to go out sooner than it would naturally, and I think in likening it to what occurred in some of the cases here that’s a similar circumstance.”

Husel surrendered to Columbus Police before the press conference. He could face 15 years to life in prison for each murder count. O’Brien says he will not face the death penalty.
